The Heathfield Apartments were officially opened at Holly Lea last week, adding 22 new apartments to the Christchurch village and marking the latest stage in its ongoing development. The opening event was elegant and celebratory, with a live harpist and harp adding a special touch, alongside guests including local MPs, councillors, industry leaders and new Heathfield residents. In a thoughtful touch, the formal proceedings were shared by live feed with all Holly Lea residents before everyone came together for celebrations and refreshments.
Graham Wilkinson, Director of Generus Living, spoke at the opening and reflected on Holly Lea’s long history, from Allan McLean’s original gift to its more recent evolution as part of the Generus Living collection. He said that when Generus Living first became involved around a decade ago, it saw more than an unfinished project; it saw an opportunity to invest in Holly Lea’s future, expand the village’s offering and continue its development with care and purpose.
Heathfield follows the completion of the Morven Apartments in 2021 and the Care Centre in 2023. The new building gives Holly Lea a more visible presence in Fendalton, contributing something special to the local area while reflecting the quality, warmth and community found throughout the village. With the new café in The Lodge now an immediate focus and Waimairi Apartments still to come, Heathfield marks another important milestone in the long-term vision for Holly Lea.
Guests were welcomed on arrival with bubbles and wine, with soft harp music playing in the Heathfield lounge as they took the opportunity to view the new apartments. The formal proceedings included remarks from Graham Wilkinson, Hamish Campbell [MP for Ilam], and Councillor David Cartwright, before the ribbon cutting was carried out by Councillor Cartwright together with new Heathfield resident Janet Brown and long-time Holly Lea resident David Compton. Guests then returned to The Lodge for celebratory refreshments.
Graham also acknowledged the many people involved in bringing Heathfield to life, including Simon Construction, the project team, consultants, partners, and the Holly Lea team led by General Manager Juliane Brand.
